Tiana Bishop August 6-7, 2011, Lexington, Ohio
Tiana Bishop is a 10 year old girl who lives in Defiance, Ohio with her parents Pat and Patty Bishop. She is in the 5th grade and has an older brother, Tyler who is in the US Army stationed at Ft. Campbell in Kentucky. Tiana enjoys horseback riding, swimming, camping and water parks such as Sea World and Dolphin Cove. Her absolute favorite thing is her love for animals. She has a dream one day of becoming a veterinarian.
Her story began in June of 2009 when she was diagnosed with stage 4 Rhabdomyosarcoma. After going through chemotherapy treatments for a year, her parents received the thrilling news in May 2010 that Tiana was officially in remission. Unfortunately, that great news was short lived as the parents received sad news in July 2010 about a relapse where tumors were detected throughout her body. Tiana is currently undergoing new more aggressive chemotherapy treatments.
Tiana has told her mom that if anything happens to her she wants her mom to continue to fight for a cure for childhood cancer and to keep that as her main focus. Tiana has a very strong faith and she never gives up or complains. She gets stronger in her faith as things in life get tougher, but she truly is a brave young girl with a great faith in God and should be a hero and inspiration to all of us!
Rhabdomyosarcoma is a type of cancer, specifically a sarcoma (cancer of connective tissues), in which the cancer cells are thought to arise from skeletal muscle progenitors. It can also be found attached to muscle tissue, wrapped around intestines, or in any anatomic location. Most occur in areas naturally lacking in skeletal muscle, such as the head, neck, and genitourinary tract.
Tiana was Inland Industrial’s Racing For Cancer (R4C) guest at the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio. Working very closely with our global ambassador “Ryan Hunter-Reay” and the Andretti Autosports team, we were able to bring a smile to her face by fulfilling one of her wildest dreams. The fun started with hosting the entire family for a fun-filled weekend at the track, enjoying private “meet and greets” with Danica Patrick and Ryan Hunter-Reay (#37). We had two autograph sessions held in the R4C booth with Ryan (Saturday and Sunday) and the fans fell so in love with Tiana that after receiving Ryan’s autograph, they asked for her autograph as well! Throughout the weekend, we had fans coming by the booth just to talk to her and show their support in her fight! Tiana was the talk of the track…not only amongst the fans but the drivers and crews were buzzing about wanting to meet this exceptional girl.
The thrill of meeting her long time idle Danica Patrick was more than enough to keep her smiling but the fun continued when she was able to attend the driver’s meeting as Ryan’s special guest, walk the stage with Ryan and then ride in one of the pace car’s around the track in the pre-race parade. Watching her sit in the pits with Ryan’s fiancé Beccy Gordon as the driver’s prepared to start the race was just priceless! The expressions on her face were displays of pure joy and amazement; she was certainly having the time of her life. This experience was created especially for Tiana by Racing for Cancer along with the support from Andretti Autosport, Inland Industrial Services Group, and Conquer Childhood Cancer Now organization from Ohio. It will be an experience that she will be talking about for days to come and also give her some good things to reflect upon when times get difficult for her. Versus TV was also there to cover the story…what a great way to unite the racing fans of America…all for a great cause!
