Taylor Vander Jeugdt

Dear Racing For Cancer;

lat_FPW_0612MM_2280I can’t express enough to you for what your foundation has done for our family. It was literally a dream come true for our children. My husband and I don’t even know where to start to say “Thank you” for this once in a lifetime amazing experience that our family shared on June 16th, 2012 in Milwaukee.

Every week, Taylor attends the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin for his Aplastic Anemia. On June 14th Taylor’s clinic day was not the typical clinic experience. As we were on our way leaving from the BMT clinic, we came upon several “Indy “race car drivers. While waiting for our car, we were asked if we wanted to attend one of the biggest races occurring in Milwaukee that weekend. We were asked to be the representative family for “Racing For Cancer”. Not knowing what to expect as we had very little knowledge of the racing world, our perspective had changed dramatically from not being “avid” race car fans to not being able to wait to watch the next Indy car race on television and cheering on the Indy car drivers that we had met that day.

Age 6
Longview, Texas

lat_abbott_tex0612_3696In 2011, young Tucker had some bruising on his arms and legs that looked like normal bruises for a 5 year old boy. After a week the bruising continued toworsen, he had what seemed like a sinus infection and a heat rash. On July 26th 2011 Tucker’s parents took him to his pediatrician who was very suspicious ofthe bruising and ordered blood work immediately. The next day morning we received a call from his pediatrician advising us to have Tucker in Dallas at Children’s Medical Center as soon as possible.

Our worst fears were confirmed the next day after Tucker had a bone marrow aspiration that concluded that he had ALL Type B Leukemia. Tucker’s world changed instantly.

dustin1Dustin is an energetic, super smart 7 year old boy who loves and lives for car racing.  Dustin’s love for cars goes beyond imaginable, he loves high performance cars and likes to watch and play racing video games.
Dustin was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in September 2007 and has been in remission for 3 years.  We discovered Dustin’s illness one day when he started complaining about pain in his elbow, it was swollen and red, but originally it was thought to be a casualty of his activeness.  When the swelling did not subside and he started complaining about pain in other joints, we took him to the hospital to see a Rheumatologist, where he was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.
